Craig Rainer Car: Ford Escort MkII
Class: A
About Craig:
Craig is from Crawley Down West Sussex and qualified to be a Motor Mechanic
after leaving school. Working initially on Fiats, Jaguar and Nissan, but
developed an unhealthy interest in Ford Escort MKII’s.
Craig had driven a MKII from when he passed his driving test but lost enthusiasm when it was stolen in Carlisle whilst following the British RAC Rally in 1992. His interest was rekindled in 1997 when he was offered a race prepared MKII Escort and could not resist. Craig quickly took his Racing License (ARDS) and was out on the track within a month, racing in the Ford Saloon Car Championship.
He has enjoyed many successes in his career so far, wining many races and having some fantastic battles against far newer and more powerful cars. He enjoys being the ‘underdog’ and really rises to the challenge of getting his ‘old’ car to do things it really shouldn’t be able to do!
In 2006 he was honoured by the marshals who voted for him to receive the Post 2 Trophy which is given annually to the Driver they think gave the best performance across all Race Series. Craig now has his name on the trophy along side the likes of Gerry Marshall.
